Kylie Jenner is proof that no matter how famous a person is, and even if they have a gazillion dollars in the bank, they still have insecurities. Jenner once revealed in a reality show that her lips have always been her source of insecurity and anxiety. It’s the reason why she has chosen to get lip fillers or lip injections.
Lip injections are a non-invasive cosmetic procedure that injects dermal fillers onto the area lip tissues to give you plumper lips.
Many people particularly women get lip injections in order to balance out their facial features. Some women get these fillers to combat the normal lip thinning that happens when we age. Our lips thin as we get older which is why clinics often see patients who are in their 40s and 50s getting lip injections.
Jenner’s reason for she getting lip injections at the onset was due to a boy who commented about her “thin” lips—which according to him would indicate a bad kisser. She wanted to feel desirable and she decided the one way to achieve this is by having bigger lips. At this point, her lips have become her signature.
Lip Injection Precautions
It’s very important for anyone considering lip injections to go to an experienced practitioner who will administer the treatment in an accredited medical facility. Injectables are risky and if you entrust it to someone who is not experienced or licensed, you might end up with lumpy lips and other side effects such as necrosis and infection.
Before the procedure you should avoid unnecessary medications especially anti-inflammatory and blood-thinning medications and products, including alcohol and Advil, as these can heighten the risk of swelling and bruising.
What to Expect During a Lip Injection Treatment
In most clinics, you’ll need to complete some pre-treatment paperwork where you’ll provide info such as medical history, consent, etc. Your injector will discuss the desired results with you, what kind of filler will be used, and if you have photos of lips you like, you can share this with them. A staff will also take pre-treatment photos then apply an anesthetic or numbing cream. Once the target area is numb, the injection will be administered.
The lip injections are quick and painless although you may experience some slight discomfort. It should take no more than an hour from the start of your appointment until the treatment is complete.
Alternatives to Kylie Jenner Lips
If you feel that lip injections aren’t for you, there are alternatives that can still produce a similar effect including surgery. The surgeon will harvest fat from your stomach or thigh, purify it and then inject onto the lips. The effect lasts up to 10 years and is more cost-effective. Dermal fillers last a few months.
Another option is a lip lift which shortens the distance from the top of the lip to the nose. It’s often a procedure done in conjunction with nose lift.
If you don’t want to undergo any invasive method, you can use lip plumping products like serums, masks and glosses which are widely available in the market. Or you can also consider Juvederm fillers.
